Every year, SXSW raises the bar. The conference-packed hybrid of film, tech, and music festivals takes place annually in Austin, Texas. As the state becomes more friendly to the idea of legalized cannabis, including hemp and CBD, the event is expected to get even more interesting.
This year, a portion of the SXSW program is dedicated to the world of cannabis. Attendees still can't consume products on site, of course. But at conferences and speaking events, they'll be able to learn firsthand from some of the most highly-respected professionals in the cannabis world.
One of these individuals is Leafly’sprincipal research scientist, the Harvard-educated neuroscientist Nick Jikomes. Since 2016, Dr. Jikomes has been contributing data-driven cannabis science. (He authors consumer-facing pieces as well.)Leafly’s digital footprint is massive, in comparison to other cannabis brands. With millions of visitors each month, and hundreds of thousands of fans on social media, Leafly's success in the cannabis space is undeniable. The company's data-driven approach to product development, content, and strategy has helped them emerge as "thought leaders" in the cannabis space.People often overlook the value of data. But Dr. Jikomes is leading efforts in research and data strategy. His efforts include partnering with cannabis testing facilities, producers, and processors. He incorporates lab data oncannabis products into Leafly’s consumer-facing platform.
If you're attending SXSW this year, and looking to get into the world of legal cannabis, you'll want to prioritize making it to Dr. Jikomes's session.
