The Perfect Dose: How much CBD should I be taking?
If you’re new to the non-psychoactive cannabinoid, cannabidiol (CBD), you may be wondering how much of it to consume at once. There’s no official “serving size” for CBD. It depends on your body, and your state of mind, and why you’re using CBD in the first place.
Whatever your condition, CBD is unlikely to hurt. It would be challenging (and expensive) to consume too much.
Still, when you’re searching for the perfect CBD regimen for optimal wellness, there are some basic factors to consider. Take your weight and body chemistry into account. If you’re in severe pain, you’ll obviously need a bigger dose than your neighbor, who’s just hoping to feel great during yoga.
You can also consider different modes of consumption. There’s CBD oil, tinctures, gummies, creams.
A good rule of thumb is to start small, and increase gradually. (This is particularly important if you’re experimenting with a product that also contains THC, the more famous cannabinoid that’s CBD’s psychoactive cousin. Some edibles and cannabis products advertise a “1:1 ratio,” meaning they’ve added as much THC as CBD.)
Are you already taking other medications? You should check with your doctor, to make sure CBD doesn’t react negatively with your meds. CBD has few negative side effects, if you take a very high dosage, it may interact with your medications. Take extra precautions if you’re on blood thinners, gastrointestinal meds, antipsychotic meds, cholesterol meds, blood pressure treatments, or epilepsy meds. Project CBD is a great source for drug interactions.
While some doctors haven’t had extensive experience with CBD supplements yet, they can still give you advice. And consulting with a budtender couldn’t hurt.
Of course, you can also do your own research. And you can always find your perfect dosage through trial and error. A little CBD oil isn’t going to kill you.
